As the housing market continues to grow, more and more people are considering buying a home; but, finding the right buyer's agent in Myrtle Beach can be an unsure process. How do you know you’re getting a good agent? Will they be honest with you? Will they be able to help you find the home you’ve been dreaming about?

The best thing you can do is educate yourself about the process of buying a home and how real estate agents can help you with that. Here are some tips that you can use to find the right real estate agent.

-Understand the credentials. You may see real estate agents with abbreviations after their title, but do you know what they mean? Those abbreviations stand for titles that the agent holds, based on continuing education certifications. Some that might be of special interest to you as a buyer include:
-CRS: Certified Residential Specialist – Has completed specialized education that qualifies them to represent buyers and sellers of residential properties.
-ABR: Accredited Buyers Representative – Has completed specialized education that qualifies them to represent the buyer in a home transaction.
-SRES: Senior Real Estate Specialist – Has completed specialized education that qualifies them in the buying and selling of homes for people who are over 50 years of age.

-Ask for referrals. The best indicator or a great agent is a happy customer. Ask your friends and family members for referrals to real estate agents they have been happy with in the past. Be careful here, though. You don’t want to end up with Aunt Linda who just got into real estate and isn’t familiar with the area that you want to move to. You can also ask the real estate agents that you interview to provide references. Call those people. Ask them about their experiences and how easy or difficult it was for them to find their home. If possible, try to get references in the neighborhoods that you’re considering.

-Interview multiple agents. Signing a contract with the first agent you talk to is never a good idea. Talk to at least three different agents before you sign a contract with anyone, and be sure to ask them informed questions. You can find lists of questions to ask online, but some of the most pressing questions should be how long the agent has been in business, if they’ve sold houses in the neighborhoods you’re considering, what the existing listings in those markets look like, and if they’re members of any state or national professional organizations that help to ensure continuing education.

-Don’t leave out a little digital research. Before you even speak to a real estate agent, you can probably find out a lot about them through online reviews. Check places like Yelp.com, the state licensing board, and do a Google search for your agent. Most agents will have at least a few reviews online, and those reviews may help you start a dialog with someone that’s worked with that agent in the past.

Finding a real estate agent when you’re ready to buy a home shouldn’t be a scary prospect. You don’t have to trust just anyone to help you find the home of your dreams. Do a little research so you understand what makes a good buyer’s agent in Myrtle Beach, then call Century 21 Broadhurst. We’re happy to answer your questions and would love to help you find a new home.
